Winner
IYC Fishing Competition
Saturday was the big day for
12 children, an average age of eight years, they were divided up between
5 boats Marlin skipper Roy Thompson, Lucky
Eddy skippered by Scott, Drifter skippered by John Anderson,
Kipper skippered by Guy Hayes, and the winning boat Sheikharra skippered
by Peter Kimber.
The competitors were fishing
for a new rod and reel, which was supplied by Southend Angling Centre,
they gave us two one for the winner and one to be raffled. Each
competitor was given three feathers and a raffle ticket, the intention
was to fish for Mackerel, as the conditions were not ideal, there was a
later change to the rules, any fish counts.
The skippers took the
competitors down to an area between Mulberry Harbour and the pier.
They fished for two hours, and the total catch between the five
boats was very low only 10 fish.
James
Darke from Billericay aged five caught four, when interview the young
man was asked what did he catch, to which he replied, “three shinny
ones and a spiky one”.
At the presentation, the
raffle was drawn and Sam Edwards won the second rod and reel.
A big thank you goes out to
all the skippers for giving up their time to make this event possible.
